HealthSouth Nittany Valley Launches Amputee Support Group

7/26/2016

HealthSouth Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital will begin hosting an amputee support group on the first Wednesday of every month from 5- 6 p.m., beginning August 3. HealthSouth Nittany Valley physical therapist Mary Gorham, D.P.T., will lead the group which will meet at the hospital located at 550 West College Avenue in Pleasant Gap. Those who have endured limb loss and their caregivers are invited to learn more about topics including pain management, nutrition, strategies to overcome physical barriers and working with insurance providers in addition to other topics and guest speakers.

“Many limb loss patients come to our hospital for acute rehabilitation feeling overwhelmed,” said Mary Gorham, D.P.T. “This support group will help them realize that, with therapy and training, they can continue to live full and functional lives.”

HealthSouth Nittany Valley provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation amputee programs designed to return limb loss patients to their optimal level of independence. Pre-and-post prosthetic rehabilitation is available and is customized to the patient’s lifestyle goals. The amputee support group’s mission is to empower those with limb loss through sharing research, best practices and the latest information in healthcare in a proactive group setting.
