HealthSouth Nittany Valley Provides Parkinson's Disease Education
PLEASANT GAP, Pa. – HealthSouth Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital will present information on communication and swallowing treatments for persons affected by Parkinson’s disease on Wednesday, September 13 at 3 p.m., during the Parkinson’s support group meeting at Fulmer’s Personal Care Home located at 201 Woodward Avenue in Lock Haven.
HealthSouth Nittany Valley Speech Language Pathologist Denise McDonald will talk about speech therapy and demonstrate technology to assist with swallowing, cognition, memory and word-finding. Attendees will also learn about inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for Parkinson’s disease, including the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT®) BIG and LOUD programs, developed by LSVT Global, Inc., and Parkinson Wellness Recovery (PWR!), an innovative treatment of Parkinson’s through an exercise-first program.
"This is a great opportunity for people to learn about the therapy options that can help improve daily activities affected by the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease,” said McDonald. “People who attend will gain a greater understanding of the therapy and technology that can help them live stronger and safer at home.”
This event is open to the public. Please RSVP to Stephanie Lowry, LPN, rehabilitation liaison, at 814-482-0724.
